Well, I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath too long on this one. As you may or may not know, Microsoft had started a project called the Community Leader Zone and was asking for early participants to become leaders in specific areas of technology. I can’t say I know the real reason behind the cancellation as Microsoft usually does not disclose such things, but it is important to be aware of how they are dealing with the community events and external technical content in relation to their own. In a somewhat unclear email received today, the following information was stated about the cancellation:
Thank you for expressing interest in the Community Leader Zone project by signing up for early access. We know that you were anticipating the upcoming release of the Community Leader Zone website this fall. Unfortunately, we have decided that our current release plans were not aligned with Microsoft goals for successful offline technical community engagement and we have decided to terminate the current project.
Community engagement is still a top priority for us. We will continue to work together with you to engage thousands of worldwide meetups and offline events with Microsoft technologies.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reply to firstname.lastname@example.org.
